The next day we spent a full day in Sevilla. We woke up to a marine layer of clouds which made it a little cool but much easier to walk around. Once we left for sight seeing we could tell the clouds were burning off quickly so we headed to the farthest places first so we wouldn't have to walk as far in the heat. Our first stops included the Torre del Oro and Plaza EspaƱa and a big park right next to the plaza. Corrie loves her parks! Next we headed back to the main area near our hotel for lunch. We sat outside and shared a variety of tapas, calamares, chicken with potatoes, salad and beer of course. We took a very leisurely lunch and made friends with our waiter who spoke like 5 languages and gave us free shots of lemoncello! We also talked to a family sitting behind us who was from Seattle. Pablo was wearing his Seattle Storm shirt and he came up and asked if we were from there. They had two little kids and had been living in London but were moving back to Seattle in 3 weeks- Wallingford. Such a small world!
After lunch we headed to the Cathedral. There was a long line when we got there because it had just opened but it moved pretty fast. We found a new friend as we waited in line, a man from Australia who was traveling around the world. Crazy! He was onto Portugal the next day and then on to Dubai and then Hong Kong and he had already been in other european countries and I think LA and NYC. What a life!
The cathedral was huge and pretty amazing. It is one of the biggest cathedral's in the world and claims to have the remains of Christopher Columbus. I had been there before but didn't remember it. We climbed up the bell tower called the Giralda to see great views of the city. After a quick siesta we enjoyed the nice evening taking pictures and getting lost in all the winding roads and small alleys.
