Our precious Lia finally arrived! It took her exactly 41 weeks to make her apperance but she sure made it memorable. Mommy was convinced she would arrive early like Gabriela and as the days went by and more and more pounds adding up, mommy wasn´t very happy.
Sunday, the 29th of March I started having contractions around 12 am but slept through them as they weren´t very strong yet. I had had a few false alarms so I wasn´t convinced it was starting but as the day went on and the contractions remained I knew by 5 pm that this was the real deal. By around 9 pm or so they started getting pretty painful and were around 10 minutes apart. They stayed that way, getting more painful but not closer together so I was waiting and waiting to go to the hospital. Finally by midnight Pablo had enough of watching me in pain and said we are going to the hospital. I thought I had a good chance of being sent back home but figured they knew better than me.
We got to the ER and I was examined. I was 4cm dialated and so they admitted me. At this point during all my testing and prepping the contractions got closer together and very painful. I had to do two set of monitors before I could get an epidural so I was suffering. My water finally broke and everything went into motion. After my last monitor I was wheeled down for my epidural. I was in so much pain and shaking I didn´t think I could keep still long enough to get the needle in.
At this point I was 8 cm dialated. The epidural helped a bit but didn´t have enough time to give me the full numbness because everything went so fast. After the epi was placed we waited outside the operating room instead of going back up to my room because my midwife said it wasn´t long til I would be ready to push. She checked me and I had gone to 10 centimeters and was waiting to go down in stations or something. She said let her know when I feel the urge to push. With Gabriela I didn´t feel anything because of the epidural so I wasn´t sure what the urge to push would feel like. Then this huge pain in my bum came and I asked Pablo if that was it. I didn´t feel any urge to push but it hurt. Then about two minutes later the biggest pain came and I screamed. My midwife came and checked me and said ok lets go. I was hurting so much. The epidural didn´t seem to help or if it was helping I could never go natural because the pain was crazy. I started pushing but it took awhile. Then all of a sudden a monitor stopped beeping and people started looking around and it got quite. I had no idea what was happening and thought she was dead. Pablo wasn´t allowed in with me at this point. It was extremely tense.
Finally I started pushing again and by a miracle she came out. It was pretty much the worst thing I had ever been through with the pain and not knowing what was happening and thinking she was dead. Luckily I had a healthy baby in the end. She didn´t come out too pretty though, as she had a big bruise on her forehead and a big bump on top of her head from using the sucker as I call it and was blue. But we love her no matter what!
Apparently, she turned mid delivery, from face down to face up. I wouldn´t recommend it to anyone because it hurt real bad for days afterward!!
Lia was born 8 pounds 1 ounce, which probably didn´t help my situation, and was 20.5 inches long! Other than the rough delivery she is happy, healthy and BIG!
