The opportunity to take a trip to D.C. presented itself late last year and after much debate and some luck we ended up going and we were glad we did! We were invited to the wedding of my sorority sister Jenny who lives in Maryland and thought it would be a good excuse to not only go to the wedding but also see friends and visit D.C., which none of us had been too. Plus it worked out as a anniversary and Pablo's birthday present as well. We were lucky and found cheap tickets on a direct flight as well.
The first night we arrived we hung out in the Dupont and Georgetown neighborhoods. They were both very cute areas and looked very new even though they weren't- very well maintained and clean. We met my friend Corrie for a drink in Georgetown along with her friend and then headed back to the hotel to sleep.
The next day we had the plan of seeing as much as we can of D.C. in one day! We did SO much walking it was crazy and amazing I made it! From our hotel we decided to walk to the White House and start the tour there. We were lucky it was nice and sunny and not too muggy but it was pretty windy at times.
In one day we saw the White House, the Washington Monument, World War II monument, Korean and Vietnam war monuments, Lincoln memorial, Arlington cemetery, we toured Ford's Theater, had lunch, then saw the Old Post Office, went to the Smithsonian Museum of American History and then made the horrible walk to the capitol building (it was so far away). By this point we were exhausted!
But we had to walk to the metro and go back to the hotel, pick up our luggage and head to Reagan Airport to pick up our rental car and drive to North Beach, MD where we rented a house for the next three nights. Wow, what a big first full day!
