Mushroom Hunting

While we were up in Asturias for the weekend we participated in a very Asturian tradition- Mushroom Hunting. This means, going up into the hills, walking around the fields, searching for mushrooms. Pablo and I went with Mushroom Expert, Pepo, in search of these great fungi.
Our objective
We went to the town Carabanzo which we had just hiked up to back in August. Our mission was to find Lepiotas, champiƱones and senderuelas. We walked high and low in search of these great treasures.

The Kill
Our first couple fields were dead ends and we found nothing. Farther up we came upon a few here and there but nothing spectacular and so we continued higher and higher into the mountain until we came across the eden of mushrooms. It was our very last stop, very near the top of the great mountain, we finally saw it....the Big Papa! Our biggest catch of the day!
The Big Papa
When we got home with our killings, Mari Carmen cooked them up spanish style- she fried two together and put ham in the middle and topped them with a green sauce. They were delicious. And after concern from my mom, we were reassured that we wouldn't die or hallucinate from eating the mushrooms. But Pepo did say that mushrooms explode or something and it was bad to eat them with alcohol. I guess sidra doesn't count!
