A Freimuth in town

My cousin Ryan came to visit us here in Madrid last weekend. He is in the middle of a whirlwind trip around Spain over the span of two weeks. He stayed with us for the first two days of his trip and we tried to show him as much as we could.
He arrived Sunday at 8 am and we picked him up at the airport, brought him home and headed out to buy churros and chocolate for breakfast. Awhile back we FINALLY found a churro place that is open only in the mornings, even on Sunday. The place is great and they even have little to go mugs of chocolate. Love our neighborhood.
The hot chocolate to dip the churros
Our mound of churros (oh and we finally got a dinning table)
After the churros we brought Ryan to my basketball game- a real treat I'm sure. We came home and Pablo made us paella for lunch and then we headed out on the town. Last weekend was the festival of San Isidro and there is a big carnival with food booths, rides, games and tons and tons of people.

Day two in Madrid we hit the main tourist sights
The Royal Palace
I had never been inside the cathedral that is right next to the Royal Palace so we went to check it out. This cathedral is very different than I'd seen before. The ceilings were painted with a variety of different and colorful patterns and there were a variety of different styles of stained glass that were more modern and others more traditional. I'm glad we finally went inside.
