Thanksgiving in Segovia

We had a special Thanksgiving this year because Papa and Gigi came to visit us! They were here for five days so we decided to make the most of the Thanksgiving holiday and rent a house in a small town called Sotosalbos in region of Segovia. It was about an hour and half from our house in Madrid on the other side of the Sierra Mountains. In typical Thanksgiving fashion it was raining and stormy and so we enjoyed sitting by the fireplace and relaxing together. The town was very cute and small. All the houses were made of stone, my personal favorite. We arrived Thursday and it was totally deserted. Finally people showed up on Friday evening and we realized it was a weekend get away town for people living in Madrid. There are only about three bars in the place and we hoped to hit those up and finally did Saturday when we found people!
Pablo had to work so we celebrate Thanksgiving Friday. We had all the goods, turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing, Papa´s deviled eggs and pumpkin bars. It was interesting cooking thanksgiving in a kitchen not very well supplied with the basics but we managed and everything turned out great even if we had to put the turkey back in the oven. I can never get it right.
In between rain showers we managed to get out of the house and check out some neighboring towns. We visited one that had a castle that we toured along with a tractor show in their plaza mayor. Random but hey we are in the country people. We also found this really cute bar recommended to us in the neighboring town that seemed totally random for the place that it was located. And to end our Spanish rural weekend we ate a lamb lunch in the town´s restaurant. Very typical for the area and delicious. They actually had a spanish wine that my dad and Jeanne had just had the week before while they were in Amsterdam. They liked it so much that they were so excited to have it with the lamb at lunch. I had a little sip and it was really nice. So we had a Spanish wine recommended by a waiter in Amsterdam to two Americans. Funny how things happen.
Our five days together went by fast but it was so nice to family visiting and a chance for Gabriela to play with papa and gigi.
